On March 3rd, Amazon announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC26) in Barcelona that it would add 18 billion euros to the 15.7 billion euros investment in Spain that had been announced in 2024, increasing the total investment to 33.7 billion euros. This investment is for expanding and supporting data center infrastructure, providing advanced AI and cloud computing capabilities for enterprises across Europe.

Amazon's AWS Europe (Spain) region is located in Aragon. It is expected that this investment plan will contribute 31.7 billion euros to Spain's GDP by 2035 and create about 29,900 full-time jobs for local enterprises every year, including direct, indirect and derivative employment positions. Among them, Amazon's direct investment will create 6,700 full-time jobs, covering multiple fields, such as highly - skilled data center operators and employees of Amazon suppliers, for example, construction workers responsible for facility construction and data center security guards.

Amazon also plans to build supply chain facilities in Aragon to directly support its data center operations in Spain and across Europe. After these facilities are fully put into operation, it is expected to create about 1,800 jobs in Aragon. This project will include a server manufacturing plant (for assembly and testing), a manufacturing logistics warehouse, and a facility dedicated to the manufacturing and maintenance of artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) servers, which is a key part of Amazon's circular economy strategy.

Since entering the Spanish market in 2011, Amazon has invested more than 20 billion euros in the country, covering retail, logistics, cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, community development projects and innovation for customers and enterprises. "On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Amazon entering the Spanish market, this new infrastructure investment consolidates our long - term commitment to Spain and will play a crucial role in Spain's digital and economic future," said David Zapolsky, Amazon's Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer.

In addition, Amazon plans to invest 30 million euros in community projects in the regions where it operates infrastructure in Spain by 2035, with a focus on education, sustainability, social impact and local development.
