July 7, 2026, Shanghai — Amazon today announced that its Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) hubs have officially landed in East China, with dual warehouses in Shanghai and Ningbo now operational. This marks another key move in strengthening Amazon’s cross-border logistics network, following the full-scale operation of the first GWD hub in Shenzhen. Leveraging the distribution advantages of the world-class port cluster in the Yangtze River Delta, the new hubs introduce a series of product and feature updates, offering sellers more agile and cost-effective support for global expansion. Among them, the “Auto Replenishment” feature has been fully launched, automatically calculating and recommending restocking plans to help sellers avoid stockouts. Meanwhile, support for FOB trade terms is now available, accommodating diverse business scenarios and needs. Amazon also announced a fee waiver: from July 1 to December 31, 2026, inventory inbound to the Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Ningbo GWD warehouses will enjoy 30 days of free storage from the date of receipt, further lowering the entry barrier for sellers.

From the Greater Bay Area to the Yangtze River Delta, GWD covers the majority of cross-border sellers

Since the Shenzhen GWD launched in April this year, seller feedback has been highly positive—the rebooking rate exceeds 45%, meaning nearly one in two sellers continue using the service. Sellers report that GWD enables centralized storage and on-demand replenishment, eliminating the need to stock large quantities overseas in one go. The entire process is managed on a single platform, significantly reducing operational complexity and costs.

The Yangtze River Delta is home to highly competitive industrial clusters, including home goods, furniture, textiles, small appliances, and consumer electronics, with a dense concentration of export-oriented manufacturers and active cross-border sellers. The East China dual-hub layout is designed precisely to support these clusters going global.

Amazon GWD - Shanghai warehouse

The Shanghai GWD warehouse is located in the Lingang Special Area, adjacent to Yangshan Deep-Water Port. Equipped with ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) and high-bay racking, it covers nearly 20,000 square meters—roughly three standard football fields—and will open for seller inbound on July 16. The Ningbo warehouse, close to Meishan Port, also features ASRS and high-bay racking. Its ASRS tower reaches 40 meters, Amazon’s tallest automated storage facility in Asia. The Ningbo hub is expected to open to sellers in Q3 this year.

Both Shanghai and Ningbo warehouses run on Amazon’s intelligent warehouse management system and support elastic capacity scaling, matching sellers’ fast-growing global demand with smart, automated storage capabilities. The two hubs will form a cross-border logistics network covering the Yangtze River Delta, East China, North China, and the middle and upper Yangtze regions. Together with Shenzhen GWD, they create a dual-region layout of “South China + East China.”

“The East China dual hubs allow Yangtze River Delta sellers to complete the entire process from warehousing to cross-border shipping right at their doorstep, dramatically simplifying supply chain management. GWD has no minimum shipment requirements and supports shipping starting from a single carton. Whether for bulk shipments or new product testing, sellers can use one-stop inbound. GWD product and supply chain capabilities fully upgraded

The launch also announced multiple product and supply chain upgrades: Auto Replenishment is now available to all sellers, with the system automatically calculating and executing restocking to reduce stockout risk—Auto Replenishment inventory is not subject to FBA capacity limits. FOB trade terms have officially launched, making it easier for sellers to claim export tax rebates. GWD adopts a hybrid storage model, supporting tax rebates upon warehousing and flexible returns, greatly streamlining return and tax refund processes.

For cross-border sellers, GWD delivers cost optimization, faster lead times, and simplified operations. On the cost front, domestic storage costs can be up to 45% lower than US storage. Sellers can keep low-cost inventory close to factories and flexibly replenish overseas FBA based on actual demand, reducing capital pressure and inventory pile-up risks. In terms of speed, GWD orders seamlessly connect to Amazon Global Logistics (AGL) cross-border transportation network for FBA delivery, improving overall speed by up to 7 days to help sellers respond faster. Operationally, sellers only need to send goods to GWD; Amazon handles export customs, cross-border transport, import clearance, and FBA inbound in one stop—replacing the complexity of coordinating multiple service providers. For flexibility, GWD supports shipping from a single carton with no minimum quantity, enabling both bulk replenishment and small-batch new product testing, allowing sellers to explore global market opportunities at the lowest trial cost.

AGL deeply empowers, building a closed-loop cross-border supply chain

Amazon Global Logistics (AGL) is the core force powering GWD’s efficiency. As Amazon’s own cross-border logistics service, AGL’s stable transport network, compliant customs solutions, and professional service provide end-to-end assurance from origin warehouses to overseas FBA centers.

Biao Peng, General Manager of Famiware, shared: “Cross-border sellers all need consolidation and domestic inventory management. The advantage of GWD is that Amazon does it for us—consolidating, managing domestic inventory, receiving and dispatching. For Famiware, GWD solves three long-standing problems. First, we no longer need to ship full containers; our suppliers in Shandong, Henan, Hunan, and elsewhere can now deliver nearby to a GWD warehouse, greatly reducing domestic coordination difficulties. Currently, GWD supports replenishment to Amazon’s US FBA network. In the future, it will gradually support replenishing to Amazon fulfillment centers in the EU, UK, Japan, Canada, and more, enabling unified global inventory—the same inventory stored in GWD will be intelligently allocated by the system to serve real-time demand across multiple sites, truly realizing “warehouse once, supply globally.”
