Anthropic has launched the mid-range Claude Sonnet 5.5, whose code generation and comprehension test performance directly surpass its own flagship Opus 5.5, making it the strongest version for coding capabilities across the entire product line. Its general Q&A and cross-domain reasoning abilities have also essentially caught up with flagship-level performance. The model's API pricing has been cut in half to $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. With a more efficient reasoning path, users' total costs can be further reduced by up to 30%. Behind this, Anthropic has added a strategy of automatically routing high-risk requests to older models, while simultaneously launching an anti-plagiarism mechanism, further maximizing operational safety.

Technically, this move almost locks out competitors. With the three tiered models Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku covering high-difficulty tasks, daily office work, and lightweight applications respectively, Anthropic directly resets the cost-performance benchmark for mid-range large models.
