By 2025, Indonesia's e-commerce GMV is expected to reach 57.7 billion US dollars, with an annual growth rate of only 2.2%. The Indonesian Ministry of Trade has issued a statement regarding this.

According to a report by Momentum Works, Thailand and Malaysia are in the lead, with growth rates of 51.8% and 47.6% respectively. Ni Made Kusuma Dewi, Director-General of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Trade, assessed that, as stated in the Momentum Works report, the slowdown in Indonesia's e-commerce GMV growth does not necessarily reflect a decline in transaction volume for small and medium-sized enterprises.

He cited the "2026-2034 Indonesian Retail Market Report and Forecast" released by Cube, which shows that consumer behavior is increasingly shifting towards an omnichannel model.

He explained that about 38% of consumers combine online and offline shopping experiences.

"This requires business participants to integrate systems and comprehensively improve the quality of customer experience," Dewi told Katadata.co.id on April 21.

He said that e-commerce remains the largest contributor to Indonesia's digital economy, estimated at 99 billion US dollars, citing the "2025 Southeast Asia Digital Economy Report" released by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company.

He said, "According to this report, Indonesia is still the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia."

Momentum Works previously assessed that due to Bukalapak's strategic shift in focus and Tokopedia's GMV rationalization, Indonesia's e-commerce GMV growth rate is only 2.2%.

The report stated, "Shopee and TikTok Shop's total transaction volume in Indonesia decreased by 36%." In Indonesia, Shopee still maintains a leading position with a market share of 54%, followed by Tokopedia and TikTok Shop with a market share of 38%.
