On May 13th, in response to the question of whether Tencent's AI (Artificial Intelligence) is lagging behind, Pony Ma, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Tencent, said at the Tencent Shareholders' Meeting, "We thought we had boarded the ship a year ago, but later found that the ship was leaking. Now we feel like we've stood up, but still can't sit down. We still hope that the ship can go faster."
Pony Ma stated that Tencent's foundational capabilities in the AI field were not outstanding in the early days. In recent years, through talent construction, team management, and internal training, they have continuously made up for their shortcomings and are now gradually entering the track of development.
Pony Ma candidly said that Tencent may not be the fastest in the industry to seize opportunities, but they insist on taking the right path, steadily advancing by combining their unique advantages. "We can't just casually cross over and grab someone else's territory just because we see others doing it there. We have also tried to grab territory before, but we basically failed later."
It is worth mentioning that at the Tencent Shareholders' Meeting, in response to the question of whether Tencent would undergo large-scale layoffs, Tencent President Martin Lau responded that there is definitely no plan for large-scale layoffs, and Tencent is not quite the same as Silicon Valley companies.
Comments from Sellers' Home
Tencent's AI strategic choice indicates that the general large-scale model is not the only path. Cross-border sellers should pay attention to Tencent's AI implementation in advertising, private domain, and cross-border payment scenarios, which has more practical value than pursuing technical parameters and is worth following up on platform tools and cost optimization trends.
