Ifeng Tech News, July 31, Beijing time – U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) today reported its second quarter 2026 financial results for the period ended June 30. Total revenue reached $200.606 billion, up 20% from $167.702 billion in the same quarter last year. Net profit was $62.647 billion, a 245% increase from $18.164 billion a year earlier.
Stock Performance:
Amazon's second-quarter revenue beat expectations, and its cloud business AWS posted its fastest growth since 2021, driving the stock price up more than 9% in after-hours trading.
Amazon shares opened at $233.25 on the Nasdaq on Thursday. At Thursday's close, the stock was up $8.85 to $235.50, a gain of 3.90%. As of press time, shares in after-hours trading rose $22.88 to $258.38, an increase of 9.72%. Over the past 52 weeks, Amazon's stock has traded between $196.00 and $278.56.
Q2 Financial Highlights:
——Total revenue of $200.606 billion, up 20% year-over-year from $167.702 billion; excluding a $100 million favorable impact from year-over-year foreign exchange rate changes, total revenue increased 20% year-over-year;
——Operating income of $27.461 billion, up 43% from $19.171 billion in the prior year;
——Net income of $62.647 billion, a 245% increase from $18.164 billion a year ago, including a $53.4 billion pre-tax non-operating other income primarily from its investment in Anthropic;
——Diluted earnings per share of $5.75, up 242% from $1.68 in the same period last year;
——Trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2026, operating cash flow was $161.4 billion, up 33% from $121.1 billion a year earlier; free cash flow decreased to an outflow of $7.6 billion, primarily due to a $66.1 billion increase in purchases of property and equipment year-over-year, reflecting the company’s investments in AI. In comparison, for the trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2025, free cash flow was an inflow of $18.2 billion.
——Received approximately $600 million in tariff refunds in the second quarter.
By Business Segment:
——AWS cloud business revenue in Q2 was $42.2 billion, up 37% year-over-year; operating income was $16.6 billion, a 62% increase from $10.2 billion a year earlier.
——North America segment revenue in Q2 was $116.2 billion, up 16% year-over-year; operating income was $9.1 billion, an increase of 21% from $7.5 billion a year ago.
——International segment revenue in Q2 was $42.2 billion, up 15% year-over-year; operating income was $1.7 billion, an increase of 30% from $1.5 billion a year ago.
2026 Q3 Outlook:
——Revenue is expected to be between $197.0 billion and $202.0 billion, representing year-over-year growth of 9% to 12%; this guidance includes an unfavorable impact of approximately 80 basis points from foreign exchange rate changes.
——Operating income is expected to be between $22.5 billion and $26.5 billion, compared to $17.4 billion in the prior year.
