AMZ123 has learned that on July 15, 2026, Maersk announced an adjustment to the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for routes from Far East Asia to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Syria. For the Far East Asia region excluding South Korea, the new rates will take effect from July 22, while shipments originating from South Korea will be subject to the new surcharge from August 1.
The specific adjustments are as follows: For Northern Europe and Mediterranean routes, a surcharge of USD 500 will apply to 20-foot containers, and USD 1,000 to 40-foot and 45-foot containers. For the Syria route, the increase is EUR 440 for 20-foot containers and EUR 880 for 40-foot and 45-foot containers.
This adjustment is mainly to address the tight capacity and rising operating costs during the peak season. Freight forwarders and foreign trade companies involved in the European and Syria routes need to promptly check the schedules of in-transit orders, evaluate the impact of the surcharge adjustment on quotations and profits, and optimize shipping arrangements or secure space in advance based on actual conditions.
