Amazon AWD Warehousing Service to Launch in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK

AMZ123 has learned that Amazon recently announced that its Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD) bulk warehousing service will officially launch in Europe, covering Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom starting August 20. These five countries are not only Europe’s largest e-commerce markets, but also core markets where Amazon leads.

AWD provides sellers with long-term, high-volume inventory storage. Sellers can store products in Amazon’s warehousing system in advance, and Amazon will automatically replenish inventory to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) fulfillment centers based on market demand, reducing manual restocking pressure and improving inventory management efficiency.

Amazon told sellers that AWD can help them address supply chain challenges by offering fixed-rate, long-term bulk storage through Amazon fulfillment centers and enabling automatic replenishment, quickly deploying inventory to FBA centers across Europe. In addition to storage fees, sellers also need to pay related inventory handling and transportation fees to FBA centers.

Compared with the traditional FBA model, a major advantage of AWD is helping sellers overcome FBA storage capacity limits. Amazon said sellers can store more inventory through AWD, use automatic replenishment to reduce manual work, and lower the risk of stockouts during sales peaks. Especially during major promotions such as Prime Day and Black Friday, AWD can help sellers position inventory in advance to cope with surging orders.

With AWD, sellers’ inventory management process gains a new link connecting warehousing and the FBA fulfillment network. Amazon has also continued to adjust its fee structure for European sellers in recent years to strengthen its logistics system.

Currently, Amazon’s European marketplace has more than 100,000 sellers, many of them small and medium-sized businesses. Third-party sellers contribute most of the sales on Amazon’s European sites, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises. The launch of AWD can help these sellers reduce inventory management difficulties.

Amazon launched AWD in the US market four years ago. In the US, sellers can use AWD not only to supply Amazon channels, but also to support inventory for other sales channels. However, this multi-channel supply feature has not yet been rolled out in Europe, and Amazon has not announced whether AWD will expand to other European countries.

Seller Home Review

European sellers can use AWD to break through storage quota limits, achieve low-cost bulk stocking and automatic replenishment, and reduce stockout risks. After the August 20 launch, it is recommended to prioritize testing logistics timeliness and costs, optimize inventory allocation based on sales fluctuations, and improve Prime delivery competitiveness.
