Amazon Requires Sellers to Label AI-Generated Content, Effective Next Month!

Time is running out for sellers.

Recently, Amazon issued an official announcement requiring all sellers to proactively label product images, A+ page graphics and text, and product descriptions that are generated or assisted by AI tools. The new rule will officially take effect on August 15, 2026. Non-compliant listings may be restricted or taken down.

I. What Content Must Be Labeled?

It is no longer a "recommendation" but a "mandate." The following content, once generated or assisted by AI, must be disclosed:

  • Product main images and additional images: e.g., lifestyle images, model images generated by Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL·E, etc.

  • A+ page images and copy: AI-created infographics, brand story images, or polished copy.

  • Product descriptions and bullet points: If the core copy is generated or significantly rewritten by large models such as ChatGPT, Claude, etc., proactive labeling is also recommended.

  • AI videos: Including customer review videos or related videos if generated by AI, also fall within the labeling scope.

II. How to Label?

When uploading or managing images or copy in the seller central, you will see a new checkbox or label option “This content was created with AI tools”. Once checked, the front-end detail page will display an "AI-generated" badge or transparent text. Amazon has clearly stated that honest labeling will not negatively impact search rankings, but intentional concealment, once detected by the system or reported, will be treated as misleading consumers.

III. Why Act Now?

Amazon emphasized in the announcement that a more powerful AI content detection model has been deployed, which will proactively scan images and text for "AI characteristics". Recently, some sellers have had their A+ content forcibly removed and listing editing rights restricted because of unlabeled AI-generated images. After full enforcement on August 15, the penalty will escalate from "restricted display" to "forced removal", potentially impacting account health scores.

IV. Seller Self-Check Checklist

Please complete the following actions immediately:

  1. Review existing listings: Check all main images, additional images, and A+ pages to confirm if they are AI-generated or contain AI elements.

  2. Retroactively label: Go to the edit page, find the new AI content labeling option, and check it truthfully.

  3. Ensure compliance for new products: When listing new products, if using AI-generated real-scene composites or AI models, complete labeling during the initial upload.

  4. Retain original materials: Keep the original AI-generated images or conversation logs for evidence during review.

  5. Label hybrid creations: Even if AI only participates in partial generation or post-processing, it is recommended to indicate it as "AI-assisted" for safety.

V. Long-Term Impact on Sellers

This new rule is not meant to suppress AI tools but to promote "responsible AI use." After labeling, consumers will be aware of how the content was generated, and trust may even increase rather than decrease. Conversely, practices that attempt to use AI to produce hyper-realistic effects or deliberately blur authenticity will lose ground entirely. For sellers with a mass listing model that relies heavily on AI materials, short-term workload will increase, but early compliance is exactly how to build a competitive moat.

In a nutshell: Before August 15, check all listings and label any AI-generated images or copy. Compliance is safety, concealment is risk.
