Reporters learned on the 5th local time that more than 20 states in the United States have announced lawsuits to block the latest global tariff policy of the U.S. government.

The Democratic state attorneys general leading the lawsuit believe that President Trump's plan to impose a 15% tariff on most regions of the world is overstepping his authority.

On February 20th local time, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration's related large-scale tariff measures implemented under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act lack clear legal authorization. After the ruling was announced, Trump announced on the same day based on Article 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 that he would impose a "global import tariff" with a tax rate of 10% for 150 days to replace the tariffs that were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. Subsequently, on the 21st, Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social" that he would raise the tax rate for a 10% import tariff on global goods to 15%.

It is reported that this lawsuit is led by the attorneys general of Oregon, Arizona, California, and New York. The states claim that the scope of Article 122 is limited to specific and limited situations and does not grant the president the power to impose comprehensive import taxes; in addition, these tariffs will increase costs for states, businesses, and consumers.
