AMZ123 has learned that Amazon recently announced it will invest more than $100 million to build a 585,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The new plant will bring advanced processing, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly capabilities together at one site to produce robots and related products used in Amazon's major fulfillment centers across North America. It is expected to begin operations in 2028.
According to Amazon, the facility is expected to create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs. This investment is also part of its ongoing expansion of robot manufacturing infrastructure.
In August this year, Amazon announced a multi-billion-dollar robotics manufacturing investment in Austin, Texas. Meanwhile, Amazon also operates one of the world's largest industrial robot manufacturing bases in Massachusetts, which opened in 2021. To date, Amazon has manufactured more than 1 million robots in the United States.
These robots are playing an increasingly important role in Amazon's global logistics network. Currently, Amazon robots are deployed in more than 300 facilities worldwide and are involved in processing 75% of customer orders in the company's global delivery operations. As demand for automation in warehousing, sorting, and delivery continues to grow, robot manufacturing capacity has become an important part of Amazon's continued expansion of its logistics system.
The Greenwood facility will further expand Amazon's industrial presence in Indiana. Amazon opened its first fulfillment center in the state back in 2008. Today, Amazon supports more than 27,000 direct jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs in Indiana, and has contributed more than $35 billion to the local GDP.
Currently, Amazon's facilities in Indiana include 17 fulfillment and sorting centers, 7 delivery stations, 4 super rural delivery stations, 5 Whole Foods stores, 1 Amazon Pharmacy, 1 Amazon Hub Locker+, 1 wind farm, 4 solar farms, 4 sites with on-site solar installations, and one AWS infrastructure region.
In addition to robot manufacturing, Amazon has also continued to expand its European logistics network recently. Amazon announced that it is expanding same-day delivery in the Netherlands. Consumers in the Randstad region can now place orders as late as 3:00 p.m. the same day and receive products that evening. The service is supported by a new fulfillment center in Waddinxveen and operated by logistics provider Dragonfly.
More than 25,000 products shipped from the center are eligible for same-day delivery. If consumers order earlier, the available selection reaches hundreds of thousands of products. Eligible orders will be delivered between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. the same day. For Prime members, no additional delivery fee applies on orders of €20 or more, while other consumers pay a €4.99 delivery fee.
The Dutch delivery network upgrade is part of Amazon's previously announced €1.4 billion investment plan. Amazon announced last year that it will invest more than €1.4 billion in the Netherlands from 2025 to 2027, focusing on expanding logistics infrastructure and improving delivery services. Amazon currently employs more than 1,000 people in the Netherlands and plans to continue expanding same-day delivery to other parts of the country in 2027 and 2028.

Seller Home Review
Amazon's self-built robot production capacity aims to reduce warehouse automation costs, which may affect FBA fee structures and warehouse fulfillment efficiency in the long term. Sellers should pay attention to whether automation dividends can be passed on to lower fulfillment fees and optimize inventory turnover strategies in advance.
