AMZ123 has learned that recently, Amazon announced it will expand its Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) service to Europe by the end of this year, adding seven markets including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
At that point, sellers will be able to centralize inventory in a warehouse facility operated by Amazon and then transfer goods according to actual demand in different countries, thereby reaching consumers in multiple countries.
GWD is a cross-border logistics service launched by Amazon for sellers, mainly designed to simplify inventory management and fulfillment processes for cross-border e-commerce. In the past, if sellers wanted to serve multiple countries at the same time, they often had to split the same inventory into different batches and ship them separately to warehouses in multiple countries.
With GWD, sellers can ship a batch of goods once to a GWD warehouse close to the production factory, and Amazon then handles subsequent distribution based on product demand in each market.
For example, a seller producing goods in Shenzhen, China can store large quantities of inventory directly in a GWD facility in Shenzhen, instead of splitting and shipping inventory to different countries as soon as production is completed. Amazon stated that compared with Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD), GWD has lower storage costs and faster replenishment to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), which can be up to five days faster than other services.
The core change of GWD is that sellers no longer need to determine in advance how much inventory should be prepared for each country. Goods are first centralized in a single inventory pool, and sellers can view the location of all inventory through a unified view. Only after actual demand appears in a country are goods transferred to the corresponding market and then shipped to local FBA fulfillment centers for fast delivery to consumers.
For cross-border sellers, this model can reduce inventory pressure caused by splitting inventory in advance. If sellers distribute inventory to multiple countries in advance, slow sales in one market may lead to excess inventory, while another market with growing sales may require urgent replenishment. Through centralized inventory and demand-based distribution, GWD allows sellers to manage inventory across different markets more flexibly.
So far, GWD has mainly served the US market. After this expansion, Amazon will add seven countries by the end of this year, including Japan, Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom. In other words, Amazon will expand GWD from a service mainly connecting US sellers and consumers to multiple markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Seller Home Review
Amazon’s GWD expansion to seven countries across Europe and Asia means sellers can use inventory in one location to flexibly replenish FBA across multiple sites, significantly reducing inventory risk and improving turnover efficiency. Sellers with multi-site operations in Europe and Asia are advised to test GWD transfer times and costs as early as possible to optimize replenishment strategies.
