AMZ123 has learned that eBay recently announced the launch of a combined discount feature for sellers. Sellers can set different percentage discounts based on the number of items a buyer purchases in one order. Once the buyer meets the corresponding conditions, the system will automatically calculate and apply the discount in the shopping cart.
eBay hopes this feature will encourage consumers to buy more items in a single purchase, help sellers increase the number of items per order, and reduce the work of manually setting up promotions.
According to eBay, sellers can set up to three discount tiers. For example, buyers can get 5% off when purchasing 2 items, 10% off when purchasing 3 items, and 15% off when purchasing 4 items. The percentages above are only examples from eBay's announcement, and the actual discount rates are determined by sellers.
This promotion applies to multiple units of the same item as well as combined purchases of different items. For example, consumers can buy multiple quantities of the same item in one order, or put different items from the same store into one order. As long as the quantity threshold set by the seller is reached, the corresponding discount will apply.
Discount information will be displayed on the product detail page, in the shopping cart, and on the seller's eBay store or profile page, making it easier for consumers to understand the offer terms before placing an order. It should be noted that combined discounts will not directly change the original displayed unit price of an item; instead, the discount amount is automatically calculated for eligible orders.
Sellers can set up combined discounts through the eBay app, Seller Cockpit Pro, or their "My eBay" account. This feature is not enabled by default. Sellers can choose whether to participate, and can adjust the discount settings or turn off the feature at any time.
Once enabled, eligible items will generally be included in the combined discount automatically, but sellers can also exclude certain items individually. If sellers list new products later, as long as the new items are eligible and have not been excluded, they will automatically join the discount campaign. This means sellers do not need to reconfigure the promotion every time they list new products, helping reduce daily operational work.
However, combined discounts cannot be stacked with all other promotions. eBay allows sellers to combine them with platform-wide promotions and special events, but they cannot be used at the same time as seller coupons, seller order discounts, multi-buy discounts, or other promo codes. If an order qualifies for multiple seller discounts at the same time, the system will apply the offer that is more favorable to the consumer.
For example, if a seller sets a 15% combined discount for two items and also offers a 20% coupon, and the buyer meets the conditions for both, the 20% coupon will be applied instead of the 15% combined discount. For sellers, this means they need to consider the relationship between different promotions when designing campaigns to avoid discount rules that differ from expectations.
Returns also affect how combined discounts are calculated. If a buyer returns some items from an order, eBay will recalculate the discount based on the remaining quantity after the return, rather than continuing to apply the original order's discount tier.
The example given on eBay's help page is: a buyer purchases 3 items at 10 euros each. After a 30% discount, the buyer actually pays 21 euros. If the buyer returns 1 item, the remaining 2 items will no longer receive the 30% discount for buying 3 items. Instead, the discount will be recalculated according to the tier for buying 2 items. In that example, the two items receive a 20% discount, and the buyer's final refund is 5 euros instead of 7 euros.

Seller Home Review
Combined discounts can increase average order value. Sellers should set up three-tier pricing as soon as possible and test cross-category combinations. Pay attention to the mutual exclusion rule with coupons, and calculate profit in advance because refunds are recalculated based on the remaining quantity.
