Oh no! Forgot to tag the image,

and the listing image was flagged as non-compliant.

Don't panic—here's how to fix the tagging and answers to common questions...

New requirement for all marketplaces worldwide——

If your product main image, secondary images, videos, or A+ Content include AI-generated lifelike people, you must add a metadata label to the image/video before uploading.

Why add it?

To comply with recently introduced regulations, Amazon requires disclosure labeling for content that contains AI-generated people.

How to add it?

Use an IPTC-compatible metadata editor and add the keyword: contains-synthetic-performer in the dc:subject (XMP) field of the file.

For A+ Content, it's even simpler—just check the "AI-generated people" option when uploading images in A+ Content Manager, and Amazon will handle it automatically.

✅ When is it not needed?

• Images with only real people (even if AI was used for retouching)

• Images from movies, TV shows, video games, etc.

• Images without any people

• People that do not look lifelike

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which media types does this policy apply to?

This policy applies to all media uploaded by sellers, including: product listing images (main and secondary), product videos, A+ Content/Enhanced Brand Content, and Brand Store images or videos.

Q: Does this process apply to advertising content (Sponsored Products ads, ADSP)?

No. Advertising content has its own separate compliance process. For disclosure requirements related to advertising, please refer to the "New York State Synthetic Performer Disclosure Compliance SOP (SA, ADSP)." However, correctly labeling your content will ensure it is compliant when used in Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands.

Q: The image was provided by my supplier/photographer—who is responsible for adding the label?

Regardless of who created the image (supplier, photographer, third-party tool, or AI service), the seller is responsible for completing the labeling before uploading. If images are provided by a supplier or third party, the seller must determine whether they contain AI-generated human portraits and label accordingly.

Q: Can I update images that were previously uploaded?

Yes. If you wish to update previously uploaded media, you can re-upload the file with the contains-synthetic-performer tag added. For instructions on adding labels, please refer to: "How to Add Labels for Media Containing AI-Generated People" FAQ.

Q: Can I mark an image directly in A+ Content Manager without labeling the file before uploading?

Yes. In A+ Content, you have two options:

(1) Label the file before uploading (using XMP metadata);

(2) Use the labeling option in A+ Content Manager during upload. Both methods are effective.

Images created with Amazon's A+ generative AI features (such as A+ Creative Agent) are automatically labeled—no action is needed from you.
