New compliance rules for electric cutting tools on Amazon US & Canada sites took effect on August 20, 2026. Starting October 19, 2026, the first batch of non-compliant products will be removed gradually, and from September 5, 2028, the UL 62841 series standards will become fully mandatory.
📅 Key Timeline

📦 Policy Scope
The new rules target AC/DC-powered electric cutting tools, covering portable and stationary types, including:
Electric saws: band saws, chain saws, circular saws, table saws, miter saws, reciprocating saws, jigsaws, concrete saws, tile saws, etc.
Other electric tools: angle grinders, polishers, handheld sanders, laminate trimmers, log splitters, shears, nibblers.
Explicit exclusions: fuel-powered tools, pneumatic tools, manual cutting tools, and standalone accessories not sold with the main unit.
US Site Core Compliance Requirements
Mandatory safety standards: Different categories must meet designated UL standards. Sellers may choose either option, with UL 62841 series recommended for long-term compliance:
Stationary saws (table saws, band saws, etc.): UL 987
Handheld circular saws/miter saws: UL 60745-1 + UL 60745-2-5 or UL 62841-1 + UL 62841-2-5
Reciprocating saws/jigsaws: UL 60745-1 + UL 60745-2-11 or UL 62841-1 + UL 62841-2-11
Angle grinders/grinding tools: UL 60745-1 + UL 60745-2-3 or UL 62841-1 + UL 62841-2-3
Additional battery requirements: Lithium battery models must also provide a UN 38.3 transport test report from an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory issued within the last 12 months, a BTS battery test summary, and cell UL 62133 reports.
Special verification requirements: All compliance documents cannot be uploaded by sellers directly. They must be verified by an Amazon-authorized TIC body, which will submit the results directly to the platform.
Canada Site Core Compliance Requirements
All electric cutting tools must comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and a complete safety test report must be issued by a laboratory accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
Lithium battery products must also provide a UN 38.3 transport test report and BTS battery test summary issued by an SCC-accredited laboratory.
The product must also meet CSA electrical safety certification requirements and local consumer product safety regulations.
⚠️ Key Compliance Pitfalls to Avoid
All test reports must be issued within the last 12 months by a laboratory with proper accreditation; expired or unqualified reports will be rejected.
IEC 62841 international reports cannot directly replace UL 62841 North American reports; North American difference testing is required.
Brand, model, and manufacturer information on the product nameplate and manual must exactly match the Listing detail page and test report. If the physical structure is changed, retesting is required.
Safety warning labels on products and packaging must be permanent printing, not temporary stickers.
