New Rules Are Here! Amazon Tightens Review for These 4 Product Categories, Potentially Affecting Listings

Amazon US has issued new rules again.

Amazon announced that from October 26, 2026, sellers creating or editing listings in categories such as refrigeration equipment, shock absorbers and suspension parts, writing instruments, and pool chemicals must answer new dangerous goods compliance questions. If information is inaccurate or missing, products may fail to be listed and delivery options may be restricted.

Some sellers joked: “This is not filling in information; it’s a qualification exam before listing. If you answer incorrectly, it’s hard for the product to even go online.”

New dangerous goods compliance rules cover four product categories

Amazon said that from October 26, 2026, if sellers create new listings or edit existing listings for specific categories, they will be required to answer new compliance questions to help the platform identify dangerous goods, enable more shipping methods, and reduce unnecessary disposal costs and fees.

Covered product categories are as follows:

Refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers and similar products — confirm refrigerant gas characteristics

Shock absorbers and suspension lift supports — questions about shock absorption mechanisms

Markers and writing instruments — questions about ink characteristics

Pool and spa water treatment products (pool chemicals) — questions about chemical composition and packaging

The category selection logic is interesting. Refrigerators, markers, and shock absorbers seem far from “dangerous goods,” but they are high-incident or high-dispute categories in transport: refrigerants involve pressure and flammability, ink involves flammability and corrosion, shock absorbers contain high-pressure gas, and pool chemicals are corrosive substances.

Simply put, Amazon does not want a “compliance statement,” but product attribute data that can be directly read and called by the system. In other words, your answers will directly trigger the platform’s review, listing, and shipping options. Inaccurate information may delay review, prevent products from going live, or restrict delivery options.

Both FBA and FBM sellers must comply with this new rule.

Some sellers worry whether Amazon will check existing listings. Amazon noted that for old listings, the platform “does not force a one-time retroactive submission,” but the next time sellers create or edit listings, the system will trigger the relevant questions.

So sellers can act early. Review relevant ASINs on the US site and confirm whether products fall into applicable categories; organize ingredient, structure, formula, and packaging information by product; and confirm materials with suppliers as soon as possible if sources are unclear, versions are outdated, or information is inconsistent. Then, before creating new ASINs, modifying product attributes, or resubmitting information, add a data check to avoid gaps discovered only at the last minute.

These details are tedious, but they determine whether listings go live on time and whether goods arrive as expected.

Sellers: the new backend is not easy to use

Recently, Amazon also launched a new seller platform, but many sellers reported that it is not user-friendly.

“What is the funniest thing about this new system? It increases operational complexity while making it impossible to find existing functions. I thought it only changed the UI, but later I found it even changed some function names. Searching for a while is worse than going back to the old version and clicking twice.”

“The new version is really hard to use. The interface is too cluttered, and many important data points require clicking in to see everything. It is complexity for the sake of complexity.”

In addition, payment reports are another major complaint area.

Some sellers say every time they look for it, it takes a long time, and they eventually return to the old version. Others describe it more specifically: “I found the financial entry in the sidebar, but each module is separate — to download payout reports, I have to click financial reports in the sidebar again. It is completely different from the previous interface.” Some sellers also report that opening a chat case to reach customer service is increasingly difficult, as they must chat with AI for a long time before being transferred to a human.

These complaints largely stem from long-established operational muscle memory being interrupted all at once. Old paths fail, and new paths are not yet familiar, so efficiency naturally suffers.

Of course, there are positive voices. Some sellers think the new version puts several daily key metrics on the homepage as tabs, making them more intuitive; others mention faster response when editing product information.

Clearly, seller experiences with this update are not consistent: some processes may be faster, while some frequently used functions have become harder to find.

Some sellers suggest bookmarking desired functions while the old version is still available. Others share that quick access still exists in the new version — just open the page you need and click the bookmark button.

The discomfort caused by the interface update can hardly be avoided in the short term, but sellers need to adapt quickly to avoid affecting work efficiency.

Adaptability itself is a competitive advantage.
