AMZ123 has learned that a research report jointly released by World Data Lab and Ebanx predicts global online shopping spending will more than double over the next decade, expanding from $11 trillion to $26 trillion. Online spending as a share of total retail will also rise from 16% to 22%.

The research notes that emerging markets are the core driver of this growth. Compared with a 66% credit card penetration rate in developed markets, only about 20% of adults in emerging markets are expected to hold credit cards, leaving significant room for growth.

In terms of consumer demographics, online spending by people aged 45 to 64 on gaming, streaming and social apps is expected to reach $318 billion, surpassing the $256 billion spent by those aged 15 to 29. Middle-aged and older consumers are gradually becoming an incremental force that cannot be ignored in the online market.

Seller Home Review

Global e-commerce growth still lies in emerging markets, and the purchasing power of middle-aged and older groups is underestimated. Sellers should prioritize high-growth regions and optimize product selection and ad targeting for users over 45, rather than focusing only on younger consumers.
