Amazon protein drink searches surge 78%; GLP-1 weight-loss drugs reshape protein consumption demand

AMZ123 learned that SmartScout, based on U.S. Amazon data, pointed out that as more than 9 million Americans use GLP-1 weight-loss medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, their appetite is suppressed by 30%–50%, while demand for muscle protection keeps rising. Protein consumption patterns are shifting from traditional “high-protein bars” to liquid and quasi-food formats that are smaller but more refined, easier to digest, and better tolerated by the stomach: monthly sales of protein drinks reached $50.2 million, and annual sales reached $633 million, up 42% year over year; the search term “protein drinks” grew 78% year over year, search volume for “protein shake” increased by 57,000, while “protein bar” search volume decreased by 2,579, and 10 of the top 12 protein bar brands saw monthly sales decline.

Meanwhile, creatine annual sales reached $720.8 million, up 90% year over year; Greek yogurt grew 215% year over year, and cottage cheese grew 291% year over year, making them potential niche markets. Among them, CPC for related products is only $0.70–$1.32, with fewer than 10 advertisers.

TRUBAR is reclaiming market share with a “12g protein + no sugar alcohols” product positioning, while Legendary Foods has integrated protein into donuts and cinnamon pastries and ranks near the top in the Donuts subcategory. These cases show that GLP-1 users are more concerned about products that are “easy to eat, less likely to cause discomfort, and have food-like attributes” rather than simply maximizing protein content.

For sellers, the opportunity is not in directly adding the “GLP-1” label—search volume for that term has actually declined—but in developing products for real needs after reduced food intake, such as high protein intake, gastrointestinal tolerance, and fiber supplementation. Among them, “fiber supplement” has a monthly search volume of 158,000, and related demand deserves attention.

SellerHome Review

GLP-1 medications are driving surging demand for high-protein foods. Categories such as protein drinks and creatine have seen both search volume and sales surge, and advertising competition is still a blue ocean with low CPC costs. Sellers are advised to prioritize subcategories such as protein drinks and Greek yogurt, and to capture traffic dividends during the low-competition window.
