AMZ123 has learned that Amazon released its third-quarter financial report showing global shipping expenses rose 11% year over year, driven mainly by fuel inflation and higher long-haul transportation rates. Excluding those two factors, shipping costs increased 8%, about 4 percentage points lower than the 12% growth in package volume. Third-quarter revenue reached $201.9 billion, up 12% year over year; operating profit was $28.1 billion, up 61% year over year, and operating margin reached 13.9%, a record high. Amazon said it offset part of the cost pressure through inventory prepositioning, shorter delivery distances, and package consolidation, but expects transportation cost pressure in the fourth quarter to remain higher than in the third quarter.
Seller Home Review
Amazon's Q3 shipping costs rose 11% year over year, and Q4 pressure is expected to be even greater. Combined with rising fuel and long-haul rates, seller fulfillment costs will continue to climb. It is recommended to calculate peak-season logistics costs in advance, optimize the mix of FBA and overseas warehouses, and evaluate pricing and promotion strategies to protect profit margins.
