AMZ123 learned that, starting today, October 26, Amazon US site has updated a hazardous materials (Hazmat) compliance requirement. When sellers create or edit product detail pages in designated categories, the backend will forcibly trigger a Hazmat compliance questionnaire.
Existing product listings do not need to be proactively handled before the effective date. However, if you later create variations or edit content—even just modifying titles, bullet points, attributes, or other information—the questionnaire will be triggered.
This requirement applies to both FBA and FBM. If the questionnaire information is incomplete or incorrect, listings cannot be saved or published, and issues such as review delays and restricted fulfillment permissions may occur. All requirements are subject to the official notice and page prompts in Seller Central.
A total of four categories are included in this mandatory questionnaire:
① Cooling equipment, including refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, and similar products; sellers need to report refrigerant gas-related parameters.
② Automotive shock absorbers and suspension support parts; the shock absorption structure principle must be explained.
③ Writing instruments such as markers; ink-related attribute information must be submitted.
④ Swimming pool and spa water treatment chemicals; ingredient information and packaging instructions must be reported.
This questionnaire is introduced to identify products' hazardous material attributes in advance, match corresponding warehousing and transportation plans, and reduce later handling risks and costs. Among them, chemical and ink products may be required to provide a Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The document must have been updated within the last five years, contain all 16 standard sections, and the product name in the sheet must match the Listing.
Sellers in the relevant categories are advised to sort out their ASINs as soon as possible and collect information from suppliers in advance, including refrigerant model and charge amount, shock absorption structure descriptions, ink ingredients, chemical composition tables, and SDS documents. You can also check the questionnaire content in advance directly on the Seller Central page.
Before creating or adjusting listings during peak season, prioritize preparing all materials to avoid review bottlenecks that delay inbound and sales schedules.

SellerHome Review
The new rule moves hazardous material compliance review to the listing creation stage. Sellers must accurately complete the questionnaire when editing designated categories to avoid removal or store suspension due to misjudgment. It is recommended to immediately check products on sale and to be listed, and prepare SDS and other compliance materials in advance.
